These are well made, clean machining. I do not use them as acorn nuts. I reduce the dome height, chase the threads with a tap and create a hex nut with a shoulder. These type nuts were used by the USA in the 1940s on military vehicles. They may have been a locking nut but did not use a cotter pin.
